On the 14-15 November the ITA-COSUF Internal Workshop in Innsbruck took place. This workshop was organised by the ILF Consulting Engineers, ASFINAG and AQUASYS, which was appreciated by the 30 participants. The workshop started with the General Assembly 2019 on day 1. On day 2 we met at ILF and enjoyed the lectures on the global work of ILF, the refurbishment project of the Arlbergtunnel, applications of water mist systems in Austrian road tunnels and Education, training and exercise as part of tunnel safety in Austria. Part of the event was a site visit to the 15 km long bi-directional Arlberg tunnel which is provided with a watermist system and a special evacuation concept from the bore to the fresh air duct of the transverse ventilation system. Also the massive assembly areas for the evacuees while waiting for the emergency services (see picture below) were impressive. It was a fruitful meeting with good networking opportunities and exchange of information with other experts in the field of operational safety of underground facilities.
